Synopsis:
By day, she’s a bruised high school outcast and roller derby jammer. By night, she hunts what lurks in the New England dark.
Seventeen-year-old Roxanne “Roxy” Cross has a problem with authority, a permanent collection of track bruises, and a secret that keeps her locked out of normal teenage life. To her family and classmates at Monadnock High, she’s just #07, The hard-hitting lead jammer for the Granite City Bruisers.
They don’t know about Sub-Level 3.
Thirty feet beneath the maple floorboards of The Roll-A-Way roller rink lies a fortified tactical bunker—the Southern New Hampshire Annex of the Monster Hunter Society. Inducted at age thirteen by her late grandfather, legendary Grand Vanguard Arthur Cross, Roxy spends her nights trading roller skates for magnesium-tipped crossbows to cull the nocturnal horrors stalking the Merrimack Valley.
It’s a cold, isolated existence governed by one unbreakable rule: Maintain the Masquerade.
Then a routine midnight sweep goes sideways. Deep in the old lumber mill, Roxy drops a mutated, spider-limbed predator—only to find the official operational seal of the Monster Hunter Society’s High Directorate branded directly into its flesh.
Someone isn’t just hunting monsters. They’re breeding them.
When charismatic visiting scholar Dr. Theo Vance arrives in town ahead of a massive regional assembly, the anomalies escalate. Worse, Sam Porter; Monadnock High’s relentless student journalist and the voice behind The Sentinel Dispatch—is dangerously close to blowing Roxy’s cover wide open. Cut off by a corrupt Council lockdown and aided only by her razor-sharp bunker handler Vespa, grizzled security chief Pete, and the one girl she can’t afford to put in the crossfire, Roxy has to lace up her skates and go rogue before the civic arena turns into a feeding ground.
